Schwante Castle Estate is a special place. Surrounded by fields, ditches and forests of the Oberhavelland, the baroque Schwante Castle is located 25 km northwest of Berlin, yet in another world. Built between 1741 and 1743 by Erasmus Wilhelm von Redern and his wife Catharina Elisabeth von Bredow, it is rumored that the building, with its wonderfully clearly structured facade, was designed by Knobelsdorff, the architect of Frederick II. Today the castle is a place for art, nature and enjoyment. The centerpiece is the ten-hectare sculpture park, plus the restaurant in the brick house and the farm store (open May to October, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am). The restaurant menu is small but fine. There are salads, something hot and cakes – self-service from the garden kitchen. Everything homemade and each dish with a little ‘twist’. The cocktails are with ingredients from the garden and the schnapps and wines obtain the Schlossgut Schwante from friendly manufactories.
